Track of the Week: Stagecoach - Threequel

It seems that there's no such thing as a quiet week in pop this year. It did very much seem like it until Wednesday however, at which point our long term favourites Stagecoach unveiled the first track from their debut album and Phoenix decided to make their intentions to return known. Both are long awaited in these quarters, and the first taster from either comes in the form of 'Threequel'.

A less excitable, but no less exciting, version of the 'Coach than we've heard from their previous EPs 'Threequel' sees them settling into their sound. There's hints of '90s influences that sits them comfortably in the current DIY-pop landscape, but this is far from the true story. They've grown more into themselves and this confidence manifests itself when they waste no time whatsoever in getting started. Clattering drums give way to noisy guitars as the song plays out, taking interesting diversions across it's perfectly formed 3 minutes and 18 seconds.

The album is due out on Alcopop! Records in May. It will likely be great.

(If this gets yr spidey-senses tingling then you should also check out Tyrannosaurus Dead, who have an EP due out on Odd Box Records in May.)
